The Branch of Telecommunication Engineering deals with the wide-ranging challenges of radio communications including satellite, wireless, optical, digital data communication systems. It is used in Television, Radar and Radio location, Transistors, Microprocessors, Control systems and Communications. Many powerful MNCs offer lucrative careers to Telecommunication engineers.

Telecommunication engineering encompasses all fields of Information Tech, Remote Sensing applications, Satellite communications, Missile control systems, Internet and what not–you name the application and there will be a Telecommunication engineer manning it! Hence, it is the “In-thing” for young engineering aspirants to choose from.


Eligibility, Entrance Exams and Courses

In order to pursue a B.E. or B.Tech Course in Telecommunication Engineering, a candidate must qualify in the higher secondary examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.

IIT-JEE is one of the important entrance examinations for Telecommunication engineering courses.

A candidate must fulfill each of the following conditions:

  • Can attempt JEE only twice, in consecutive years.
  • Should have passed (10+2) or equivalent qualifying examination in 2008 or should be appearing in 2009, and secure at least 60% (55% for SC/ST & Physically disabled )
  • Minimum age limit of 25 yrs as on 1st October (30 yrs for SC/ST and PD candidates).

Each State has its own particular eligibility criteria and entrance exams. Some famous Engineering Institutions have their own entrance exams like EAMCET for A.P, KCET for Karnataka and TCET for Tamil Nadu which are usually conducted in the month of May-June. Candidates should ascertain precise details directly from these Institutions.

    My name is Umashankar. This is very interesting to know about telecommunications and you done a good job on providing information. I have completed my B.Tech on electronics and communications. right now i’m planning to do masters in telecommunications. That to in London But, some are telling me that after B.Tech MBA is good. so, By all these i got some confusion which do i need to do. is that good idea doing PG in abroad?. can u please help me on this issue.
