System Administration Career
A systems administrator (Sysadmin) is a person employed to maintain and operate a computer system or network. Sysadmins are given the duties of installing, supporting, and maintaining servers or other computer systems, and to plan for and respond to service outages and other problems.
Eligibility, Entrance Exams & Courses:
Sysadmins need to have a degree or post-graduate degree in related fields of computer science, information technology, computer engineering and information systems management. A Masters program in Network and System Administration is a must to join reputed organizations and companies as Sysadmin.
To seek admission in any graduate course of B.E or B.Tech offering Computer Science, Information Technology or Computer Engineering as Majors, a prospective candidate must qualify in Common Entrance Test designated as Engineering, Agricultural and Medical Common Entrance Test – EAMCET of Andhra Pradesh. Other States in India have similar common entrance tests for above courses.
The minimum qualification to appear for EAMCET is: A pass in Intermediate Examination or appearance at 2nd year Intermediate Examination (10 + 2 pattern) conducted by the A.P. Board of Intermediate Education. Candidates with Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry as optional subjects in their Intermediate or its equivalent course are eligible for Engineering B.E/B.Tech/ B.Tech. Candidates who qualify in EAMCET are invited for ‘On-line Counseling’ for allotment of courses and colleges of their choice.

Salaries:
Remunerations depend on technical qualifications, talent and merit of the aspirants. Job Portals like Monsterindia.com and Naukri.com are listing career openings WITHOUT stating salary structure which is invariably ‘Negotiable’. But, as a general rule, fresher Sysadmins may expect about Rs 25,000/- pm plus perks to start with and may reach a figure of Rs 35,000/- pm after demonstrated performance. Sysadmins who are promoted to Managers and Dept heads are paid fabulous salaries!
