A Biomedical Engineering course offers knowledge in technical expertise on the subjects of biology and medicine simultaneously and contributes effectively to the development of healthcare and increasing longevity of human lives. Biomedical engineers devise artificial organs like kidneys, pacemakers, sophisticated therapeutic and surgical devices like magnetic resonance imaging machine, heart-lung machine, artificial heart valves and laser system for eyes. Eligibility, Entrance Exams and Courses

Basic qualification for entering a B.Tech or a B.Sc course in Biomedical Engineering is a 10+2 under-graduate course with science subjects. Biomedical engineering can be chosen as a special subject in engineering.

Indian Institute of Technology – Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE)


A candidate must fulfill each of the following conditions:

  • Can attempt JEE only twice, in consecutive years.
  • Should have passed (10+2) or equivalent qualifying examination in 2008 or should be appearing in 2009, and secure at least 60% (55% for SC/ST & Physically disabled )
  • Minimum age limit of 25 yrs as on 1st October (30 yrs for SC/ST and PD candidates).

EAMCET – Engineering, Agriculture & Medical Common Entrance Test

Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET), Andhra Pradesh is conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Hyderabad.

  • Candidates should have passed or appeared for the final year of Intermediate Examination (10+2 pattern) with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional or related vocational courses in the fields of Engineering and Technology, conducted by the Board of Intermediate Education, Andhra Pradesh along with bridge course or courses conducted by it for candidates enrolled during 2001-2003 and subsequent batches.
  • For Engineering course, candidates should have completed 16 years of age as on 31st December of the year of admission. There is no upper age limit.

Immense job opportunities in diverse spheres like medical equipments manufacturing, orthopedic and rehabilitation engineering, molecular, cellular and tissue engineering in public as well as in corporate sectors are available for the biomedical engineers in India. They can also develop biomaterials to blend living cells and biomechanics and provide a match for living tissues which is the most sought after research providing jobs with handsome pay packages.
There is a huge demand for biomedical engineers abroad. Clinical engineers who monitor and maintain the database of medical instrumentation and work with physicians to adapt instrumentation for the specific needs of the physician and hospitals are most sought after in hospitals abroad other.

Salaries:

Remuneration depends on the qualifications and specialization of the aspirants plus the standing of the organization. Prestigious hospitals like APOLLO, MEDWIN, JJ Hospital Mumbai and AIIMS New Delhi offer   Rs 25,000/- to Rs 30,000/- pm to freshers who join as Internees. Later, on acquiring on- the- job experience, they get salaries upto Rs 35,000/- to Rs 60,000/- pm.

    in the application procedure they are asking for a list of 4 courses studied in b.tech level which are relevant to the m.tech programme, i don’t understand which subjects to mention… plz suggest.
