Aeronautical engineering is one of the most fascinating courses in engineering. The basic degree required for becoming an aeronautical engineer is a B.E or B.Tech. Aeronautical Engineering Course imparts multi-faceted training in areas like manufacturing and development of aircrafts and missiles.

Eligibility, Entrance Exams and Courses:

In order to pursue a B.E. or B.Tech Course in Aeronautical Engineering, one needs to qualify the higher secondary examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects with a good aggregate percentage.

IIT-JEE is one of the important entrance examinations for Aeronautical Engineering.


A candidate must fulfill each of the following conditions:

  • Can attempt JEE only twice, in consecutive years.
  • Should have passed (10+2) or equivalent qualifying examination in 2008 or should be appearing in 2009, and secure at least 60% (55% for SC/ST & Physically disabled )
  • Minimum age limit of 25 yrs as on 1st October (30 yrs for SC/ST and PD candidates).

Andhra Pradesh.

Candidates should have passed or appeared for the final year of Intermediate Examination (10+2 pattern) with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as optional or related vocational courses in the fields of Engineering and Technology with bridge course or courses conducted for candidates enrolled during 2001-2003 and subsequent batches.

For Engineering course, candidates should have completed 16 years of age as on 31st December of the year of admission. There is no upper age limit.

Career Opportunities and Job Prospects:

Aeronautical engineers are mostly employed by ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) and the Defense Ministry,Civil Aviation Department, National Aeronautical Laboratory, DRDO and HAL. Lucrative job opportunities for aeronautical engineers are available in United States of America, France, UK and Germany. A good percentage of Indians constitute the work force of engineers and technical professionals in NASA.

Salaries:

Public Sector Defence and aerospace organizations offer  Junior Engineers and Grade-II Scientists recruited through the UPSC a starting salary of about Rs 20,000/- pm plus allowances. The rise in their careers is beaurocratic and they may reach salaries of about Rs 50,000/- pm plus allowances at the peak of their careers.

Job opportunities in careers abroad are very fetching and many aeronautical engineers migrate to USA, UK, and Germany in search of greener pastures.
